Game of Thrones: Jon Snow's Mother (SPOILERS)
One of the biggest mysteries in George R. R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire series (and the HBO series Game of Thrones) is the identity of the mother of Ned Stark's bastard son, Jon Snow. A couple of years ago my friend Arnold Agraviador dug around on the internet and found some very interesting theories, one of which sounds like a winner. It's fun to tell people this theory because of the gasps of astonishment it produces--almost everyone who hears it is immediately convinced of its rightness.
The theory I'm about to describe is not technically a spoiler, since it's a guess based on clues laced through the first three books of the series. But to explain it requires reference to plot points from the first three books of the series, or the entirety of the HBO series. So be warned!
